Kenya safari & Zanzibar beach holiday

The Masai Mara and exotic Zanzibar are undoubtedly two of East Africa's highlights. In the Masai Mara, we generally stay at Basecamp, an eco-friendly luxury tented camp situated in the heart of one of the most prolific wildlife areas on earth. Spectacular game drives start right from the camp, as it is not uncommon to have game wandering through at any time. After spending time in the company of some of the most beautiful wildlife in Africa, rising early to enjoy their company at the break of dawn, what better way to relax and enjoy our memories than on the idyllic spice island of Zanzibar. You can laze by the pool for some well earned rest, join some of the optional activities or visit Stone Town with its fascinating architecture and narrow streets .

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Depart London.
Day 2: Arrive Nairobi; drive down the Rift Valley to Lake Elementaita. Afternoon free to relax or take optional walk down to lake.
Day 3: Full day in Lake Nakuru N.P.
Day 4: Drive to Masai Mara; afternoon game drive.
Day 5-6: Two full days in the Masai Mara including optional game walks.
Day 7: Morning game drive; transfer to Nairobi.
Day 8: Fly to Zanzibar.
Day 9-10-11: Four days on this beautiful island. Explore the old Stone Town and enjoy the spectacular Indian Ocean beaches.
Day 12: Morning at leisure; depart Zanzibar.
Day 13: Arrive London.

Small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

How this holiday makes a difference

This tour has been designed to both operate in a way that minimises our impact on the environment that we visit and to maximise the benefit that our clients can have on the host community.

We use a locally based operator for this trip and have established a long-term partnership, assisting with local staff training in all aspects of their jobs, thereby investing in the people to help improve their knowledge and future prospects. All our Kenyan leaders are committed to Responsible Tourism and receive regular updates and training from us and our local partners. The leaders will give a briefing on Responsible Tourism issues to help you understand how you can help reduce your impact and maximise the benefits to the local communities from your visit.

The private camp used on this trip is a major employer in the Masai Mara with over 60 Masai employed. The Masai safari guides are assisted in gaining professional qualifications that not only enhances the experience of our clients but also provides a solid career foundation. This contributes directly to the local communities as local staff are employed and locally produced and sourced goods are bought for the accommodation benefiting the wider community.

The trip visits a number of fragile ecosystems including the Masai Mara and to reduce our impact on these areas and to enhance the experience of our clients we only take a maximum of 12 in any group. At our offices we have worked to reduce our carbon footprint through a reduction of energy use and energy conservation measures. We also actively try to reduce the waste produced by having active reduction and recycling policies in place. We run annual staff workshops on Responsible Tourism. Global warming is a reality and to help you make a difference by reducing the carbon dioxide that is produced when you travel we offer a chance to carbon balance your flights. We encourage all our clients to do this and do so for all our staff travel. Go on do your bit!
