Kenya safari & beach holiday, tailormade
If you plan this trip for the August/September time, you will have the added excitement of the wildebeest migration being in the Mara.
The lodges we have chosen for this holiday all have very good eco-credentials and are very comfortable, with excellent service.
As well as the game watching, since all the camps are linked with community projects, you will also have the chance to learn about Maasai traditions and local Swahili culture on Lamu. Finally, relax on Lamu Island – either by the pool or the coastline, or by taking long walks on the beaches.
Bear in mind that this is just ONE of the many tailor made Kenya holidays you could consider, as we can arrange anything for you. An average 2 week safari and beach holiday will cost from about £2000 per person, plus international flights from around £650. Please make an enquiry for more information.
Day-by-day itinerary

Day 2: | Gameviewing based at Amboseli Porini. |
Day 3: | Transfer to Masai Mara. Today you will be driven back to Nairobi, and transferred to Wilson airport, for your short flight to the Masai Mara. On landing you will be driven to your camp in the Mara for the start of your Masai Mara safari experience. |
Day 4: | Game watching in Masai Mara. Optional walks with Maasai guides. Night game drives are also possible. |
Day 5-8: | Lamu Island. After your morning game drive, fly back to Nairobi and on to the gorgeous archipelago of Lamu. On arrival, you will be taken (by boat) to Kipungani lodge at the tip of a long stretch of beach. (Please note that much of Lamu is a tidal and mangrove area, so you sometimes need to walk to get to the sandy beaches). Relax on Lamu, based at Kipungani Explorer for the next 4 nights. |
Day 9: | Return to Nairobi. Fly back to Nairobi airport for your onward connections. |
How this holiday makes a difference
Amboseli Porini Camp make a huge effort in all aspects of environmental responsibility and this is communicated to the guests on their arrival. Water saving safari showers are used in all the rooms, and the water is fed from one central source which is closely monitored. Rainwater is collected also.
Solar power is used for all the lighting at the camp. It has a good recycling and composing policy and uses a good deal of environmentally-friendly products. In addition, Porini manage the community-owned conservancy within which they work. Amboseli Porini is very strong on social responsibility. The local community have part- ownership of the camp, and also get bed night fees for visitors staying, as well as land lease payments from Porini. The camp employs 94% of its staff from the local community, and all of the guides used at the camp are local too.
The guests are treated to in depth walks with Maasai to learn about their culture and history, and how they live in harmony with their surroundings. To help the local community infrastructure, the camp built a classroom at the local school and had 2 boreholes built on the community land for them. They do many other things too, such as offering medical emergency assistance, buying locally-made crafts to decorate the camp and sell to tourists (profit to the maker). We awarded Amboseli Porini a 4 globe rating for their environmental stance, and 5 for their social responsibility.
The Mara Porini Camp manages a community-owned conservancy which actively protects the natural local area. Water saving at the camp is taken very seriously, and the practises are discussed with the guests upon their arrival. Water is pumped into a main tank each day and from there it is gravity fed to all areas greatly minimising the need for using an energy source. The camp also uses solar power for lighting. Biodegradable packaging is used for many of the supplies at the camp, and non-toxic detergents and cleaning products are used.
Mara Porini is a camp which is very much a partnership with the local Maasai community. The community benefits as a whole thanks to bed night fees and land rental payments, and also the camp brings employment.
About three quarters of the staff at the camp are employed from the local area. The camp has contributed to the local community infrastructure by building a footbridge to enable the river to be crossed at all times, and 2 boreholes were also installed. We awarded Mara Porini a 4 globe rating for their environmental stance, and 4 for their social responsibility.
Our accommodation on Lamu is run in cooperation with the local village and the villages benefit in a number of ways, from direct income through work, to providing most of the building and items of décor, and providing food.
