Kenya budget safari
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: | Nairobi. Step into the frenetic atmosphere of Kenya's busy capital. For those who arrive early, be sure to visit Kenya's National Museum to learn more about this nation's history. |
Days 2-3: | Samburu National Reserve. The bright traditional dress and vibrant accessories of the Samburu tribespeople are highly visible on a drive across the foothills of Mt Kenya. Perhaps take an optional tour of a local village to learn more about these and other nomadic communities. Within the Samburu, look out for endangered Grevy's zebras and graceful gerenuks as well as giant crocs who inhabit the muddy waters of the Ewaso Ng'iro River that snakes through the dry landscape. |
Day 4: | Lake Nakuru. Enjoy a traditional lunch at a homestead before witnessing one of the world's greatest spectacles: thousands of pink flamingos feeding in the shallow waters of Lake Nakuru. An afternoon game drive provides a look at some of the park's famous four-legged attractions - perhaps even the rare Rothschild's giraffe. |
Day 5: | Lake Naivasha. Spend the morning searching out wildlife then visit a local market. Maybe take a cruise on the lake in the afternoon sunlight to spot hippos wallowing on the shore. |
Days 6-7: | Masai Mara National Reserve. With everything from elephants and wildebeest to lions and hyenas, the variety of wildlife in the famed Masai Mara is simply amazing. It's even possible to take a breathtaking early morning balloon ride high above the savanna to watch the park come to life as the sun rises. |
Day 8: | Nairobi. Return to the safari capital of the world in bustling Nairobi. |
How this holiday makes a difference
For every week that our passengers spend in Africa, we plant a tree in Kenya through the Woodlands 2000 Trust, a local NGO. The Woodlands 2000 Trust is a wonderful project that provides seeds and seedlings with planting materials as well as land-planning, tree survival and woodlot management services. It aims to increase reforestation and bio-diversify in semi-arid regions, and also to create sustainable and profitable tree products micro-industries that contribute to alleviating poverty. While approaching the Masai Mara, there is a chance for you to plant a tree at a site.
We believe strongly in low impact tourism and so during this trip we use existing locally owned facilities and camp ground such as the one used in Nakuru. By using locally owned and run facilities we are helping the local communities that we visit.
During this trip there is a wonderful opportunity to visit a local Market in two towns; Naivasha and Nakuru while the cooks replenishes the supplies. The people in this buzzling market are from all origins and tribes, a great opportunity to listen to the diverse languages and interact with the local, view all types of fruits, vegetables and cereals grown in Kenya.
