Kenya Beach club holiday.
Upon entering the beachclub you know you are somewhere memorable and unique. Stepping into the sunlight you are greeted by views of the freeform infinity swimming pool merging with the azure hues of the Indian Ocean beyond - it is quite simply breathtaking.
Steps lead down to the white sand of the hotels private beach, where Arabic dhow boats sail by and local fishermen tend to their lines in the creek. Here you will also find a range of brand new sailing and windsurfing equipment set out on the shores of the warm, turquoise waters, and a lovely little beach bar where you can relax with a refreshing drink and enjoy the views.
No trip to Kenya is complete without getting up close to some of the biggest local wildlife. To make the most of the holiday time you have available, we’re offering a range of fabulous safari options including an unforgettable chance to visit the Masai Mara game reserve.
Kenya is a land of breathtaking sights, unforgettable natural beauty and a long and interesting history. The Beachclub is named after the small nearby village, overlooking Kilifi Creek you will find the old ruins of Mnarani, an ancient coastal settlement dating back to the early 14th Century.
The site consists of two mosques and a group of tombs. Mnarani was destroyed in the early 17th century. Also at the site of the ruins you will see the largest baobab tree on the Kenya coast. A large hole has been made in the side of the tree where local people leave offerings. About 2 kilometres across a bridge is Kilifi town, a fairly busy and colourful, typical African town.
Shopping Facilities at Kilifi include: A Supermarket, Fresh meat and fish, Banks, Post Office, General Stores (duka's), Chemist, Local Craft Shops, Rugmaking, a Daily Fruit and Vegetable Market and a few excellent Restaurants in and around the area.
One hour north from Kilifi is the bustling and lively town of Malindi. Malindi is great for shopping with a row of quaint shops filled with interesting arts and crafts, jewellery, colourful fabrics and attractive hand made furniture.
Sailing
Kilifi creek, a tidal river estuary opening out into the Indian Ocean, is a world championship sailing venue. Consistent trade winds and warm, clear water ensure excellent sailing conditions with winds building throughout the day, reaching on average force 3-4 most days.
The sailing area is extensive, with ocean and inland sailing offering conditions to suit all abilities. From our beach you sail left up the creek to a vast inland salt-water lake with excellent wind and calm waters. Turn right, past the reef and you are sailing in the Indian Ocean.
Fishing, Diving and Snorkelling
Kilifi is famous for its World-class big game fishing. In addition there are wonderful opportunities for snorkelling and scuba diving along the vast coral reef. Nearby Malindi-Watamu Marine National Park has a spectacular reef and is a renowned site for both snorkelling and diving. There is a PADI dive school at our Beachclub.
You can also pay locally to enjoy the calm waters of the creek whilst waterskiing or wakeboarding.
Kayaking and Mountain biking
We also have ten one and two seater kayaks, which are perfect for exploring the tiny bays and inlets of the creek and mangroves, home to over 250 different species of birds. Mountain bikers will also have a fantastic experience using our fleet of 12 brand new Gary Fisher mountain bikes. There are lots of tracks in and around Kilifi.
Safari
The word Safari is Swahili for ‘to journey’. No trip to Kenya is complete without getting up close and personal with some of the most famous wildlife. To make the most of the holiday time you have available, we’re offering a range of fabulous safari options of varying duration – by air or road – to the most popular game viewing areas; everything from a 1 day road trip to a 3 day/2 night safari at the Tsavo National Park. There is also the option to fly up for an unforgettable tour of the Masai Mara game reserve.
Spa
There is a new 'spa' area at the beachclub with a wide range of treatments to pamper, relax and soothe your aching muscles, including facial treatments, massage treatments, body treatments and waxing.
The Beachclub offers a choice of ‘Creek’ or ‘Garden’ rooms.
Situated closest to the beach and watersports, our ‘Creek’ rooms are all located on the ground floor and offer views over the creek and Indian Ocean. These rooms are spacious and light and can accommodate an extra bed plus a cot.
Bungalow style ‘Garden’ rooms form a semi circle around landscaped gardens, giant Frangipani trees provide pockets of shade and many of the private terraces afford glimpses of the creek beyond. The ‘Garden’ rooms have a lovely tranquil atmosphere and enjoy close access to a ‘plunge’ pool with views of the creek.
Both ‘Garden’ and ‘Creek’ rooms are simply and tastefully decorated with traditional style thatched roofs, hardwood furniture and a touch of Arabic style. All rooms feature recently upgraded bathrooms with shower and wc, air conditioning, fridge, mosquito nets and private terrace.
There is also a “family room” which consists of an adjacent double and triple room, each with it’s own bathroom and entrance door, which opens out onto a large, enclosed shared patio area (please note this room type does not have an internal interconnecting door).
Facilities
The open plan bar and restaurant enjoys cooling sea breezes and wonderful views of the stunning swimming pool, creek and ocean. When dusk falls colourful lanterns suspended from wooden beams sway in the breeze and create a magical atmosphere in which to relax whilst enjoying a quiet chat or entertainment from local musicians and traditional dancers.
You can look forward to a tempting mix of local and western dishes. Many locals make their living fishing so there’s lots of fresh fish on the menu; the coast also has an Asian influence so there are plenty of delicious curry dishes on offer. Don’t miss the weekly beach barbecue, which serves grilled local fish, beef fillet and local oysters from Kilifi creek. The bar serves a variety of house wines, local beer, international spirits and soft drinks
Sun loungers and parasols are located around the pool either on the terrace or under the shade of the trees on the lawns. There is an additional ‘plunge’ pool behind the restaurant and bar, close to the ‘Garden’ rooms.
The gardens are inviting and beautifully maintained and the resident troop of monkeys will delight you with their antics. Paths through the grounds lead to the white sandy beach of the resorts private cove. This gorgeous little beach has every facility for watersports including a PADI registered dive school. Or you can simply enjoying a swim, relax on a lounger under the thatched parasols or enjoy some refreshment at the beach bar. There is also a ‘spa’ where you can enjoy a range of treatments including massage and manicures.
Levels of service at the resort are excellent and nothing is too much trouble, the reception offers money exchange facilities, Internet access and a small gift shop.

How this holiday makes a difference
Community
90% of our shore-based accommodation is based in small locally owned hotels, or small own-managed hotels, in preference to the larger chains. In both our locally owned and our own-managed properties local people are employed and training and promotion opportunities are provided where appropriate.
By avoiding fully-inclusive board arrangements and by recommendations in our literature and in briefings, we encourage our guests to eat out where possible to enhance their holiday experience and boost the local economies. Where we manage accommodation units all food and drink is sourced locally where possible.
Getting it Pegged: Kenya is a brand new resort and our team wasted no time in scouting around to see how they could make a difference locally. After some research and fully supported by our guests, the team have come up with the following PEG (People, Environment, Green) policy:
People - Doing Now
- We have employed and are training 6 local staff with view to increasing this number and cutting down on imported staff.
- Take guests on walking and biking tours of the local villages to help raise awareness of local issues
- Weekly fundraising race to raise money to help local children attend school by buying uniforms, books, stationary, etc.
People - Planned for 2010
- Teach local children’s clubs to sail/windsurf.
- Teach local people to swim.
- Teach some local fishermen sailing theory eg rules of the road, sea safety, in order to create a safer sailing environment
for all.
Economy - Doing Now
- Local craft market comes to the hotel to sell their wares.
- We encourage guests to buy from the local markets rather than souvenir shops which are not locally owned.
- The Hotel currently buys all fruit and vegetables from local farmers.
- Engaging with local traders to find out ways they feel we can help them. Out of this came the opportunity to ask them to
stop putting up the prices unnecessarily to the hotel so that we can use them to buy fish and chicken locally again.
- Hotel buys eggs from local deaf school to help them raise money to support the children of the school.
Economy - Planned for 2010
- Give plastic, disposable, water bottles to local people in need to take to the recycle centre. The centre pays a small
amount for each bottle, thus helping the local people too.
Environment
Green - Doing Now
The majority of our activities programmes are based on wind, pedal or muscle power, providing enough energy to satisfy most thrill-seeking speed-freaks in the most environmentally benign way we know how. We can also cater for our more sedate guests, however! We no longer use anti-fouling on our day boats and where possible we use 4-stroke outboard engines on our powerboats to reduce noise, fuel consumption and emissions. We also:
- Ask guests to crush water bottles.
- Collect spare drinking water left in water bottles, to give to locals to drink rather than tap water.
- Encourage guests to minimise water usage
- Use less fuel by providing kayak safety cover for slower vessels staying in one area.
- Litter sweep the whole beach regularly
- We move the Sea Urchins off the reef – good for the urchins and good for the reef!
- We advise guests not to buy coral etc. for souvenirs
Green - Planned for 2010 - Things we are encouraging the hotel to do
- Stop turning on air conditioning and lights at 15.00 when it’s not dark until 18.30
- Cut down on towel washing both in the rooms and around the pool and beach
